Resia
In Prato di Resia you will find the Visitor Centre of the Julian Pre-Alps Nature Park, with several trails for trekking in summer and for snowshoeing in winter.
To the east the valley is bounded by a rocky massif in which Mount Canin (2587 metres) stands out.
The origins of Resia date back to the 7th century, when a community of Slav origin came here in the Avars and Lombards' train.
This hamlet is an extremely important area from a cultural point of view: its language is the subject of many studies and very interesting rites are preserved and handed down, such as the Carnival of Resia and the typical dance - the Resiana - which is based on a hypnotic and charming melody.

From a historical point of view, it was subject to the jurisdiction of the Abbey of Moggio, following its events over the centuries. It had a certain importance under the Venetian rule for the defence of the Saddles of Carnizza and of Guardia, through which one can reach the Isonzo valley in Slovenia.
History is not the only surprising aspect: the Resia Valley is characterised by amazing nature rich in peculiar animals and plants.
